Remarks on my GPS

After Mark had used his GPS for a while and after we had exchanged emails about his experiences, I decided to buy one short before a ski tour in April 1998. I chose the same Garmin GPS 12, and I call it Garmin. Garmin has a weight of 270 g including the batteries. My first experiences were not so pleasant, but this is a different story, and I call it "Upload not present".

But Garmin worked fine on the tour. He even was in Japan in the meantime. It was not easy for him in the Shinkansen, because the many tunnels blocked the signals of the satellites. But from time to time, he showed the speed (SPD), for instance 213 km/h, when I placed it at the window of the express train.
