OUR TRIPS TO HAWAI'I Originally, Hawai'i wasn't on our list for the next years. But some day in spring of 1997 Carola came home with an invitation to attend a workshop on Kaua'i. It was a good idea of the semiconductor industry to organize an international workshop on Kaua'i, as both Japanese and Californian participants had only a short distance to fly, and the others from the rest of the world did not complain about the long journey. We read a lot about the different islands and found out that Kaua'i would be good for hiking, although we could not take much of our hiking equipment with us, just the shoes. Carola, with a special interest in volcanoes, wanted to see an active volcano on Big Island. We had a total of two weeks available, so we planned to stay about a week on Kaua'i, including the workshop, three days on Big Island and one on Oahu. We had to leave on Thursday evening to be back home on Sunday morning. Although we had only six days without obligations, it was really a vacation that we will never forget. |
