You can download an application form for permits. It is not perfect, but it worked on my ink-jet printer. One of the most frequently asked questions concerning the permits is: "Is it really true that I have to apply with a photocopy of an identification ?" The answer is: "Yes, exactly". For camping permits you should send your application at least four weeks in advance. For hiking only, it was possible to get permits during a visit to the office.
The office is located in this building near Rice Street, Lihue.
It is in the vicinity of the Post Office, where I bought the new stamps
with the Humphrey Bogart portrait for a friend. If you don't need stamps,
you can combine your visit to the office with a visit to the nearby museum.
